Martha's Notes

It’s such a pleasure to introduce some new wines from the Overshine Collective estate vineyard, Las Cimas, to the Martha Stoumen line-up! Following on the heels of Mystery Date, this Ribolla Gialla is an expression of the incredible Las Cimas site in Sonoma County. I’ve always loved Ribolla (truly savory white grapes are rare), but with only 20 acres planted across the whole state of California, I didn’t expect I’d get to work with it (side note: I did consult for a Sonoma County vineyard planting in 2017 and encouraged they plant Ribolla Gialla, so a small portion of those 20 acres I can claim credit for ;) Although directly pressed, this Ribolla Gialla drinks like a lightly skin fermented wine, and passes for an orange wine in flavor and texture.

Specifications

Vintage:

2024

Alcohol:

12%

Varietal:

100% Ribolla Gialla

Vineyard:

Las Cimas is located in some of the highest elevations of the middle reach of the Russian River Valley, where the temperate afternoons are shouldered by exceptionally cool mornings and evenings. This comes from the vineyard’s positioning above the fog line, so ripening is intensified by the solar radiation but kept in check by the competing cooling influence from West County that whips through Armstrong Redwoods and over Sweetwater Springs. Soils are exceptional and unique here, especially for the Russian River Valley. Primarily chlorite and sandstone schist, with large pieces of quartz throughout. These wine grapes are grown organically under the direction of David Drummond and Sam Bilbro, our partners here at the Overshine Collective. The Ribolla Gialla block sits at mid-elevation (~800 ft) on an eastern-facing gently-sloped bench of mostly sandstone with some sandy clay.

Vinification Notes:

Direct to press, no settling off juice lees, to stainless steel for fermentation. Aged in neutral oak for 21 months. 20ppm SO2 after native malolactic fermentation completes. Even though direct-pressed (but with juice solid inclusion) this grape presents itself like an amber-hued lightly skin fermented wine. Unfined and unfiltered. Sediment expected.

Serving Temp:

Cool to Cellar Temp // 50-55°F // 10-13°C // This bottle should be cold to the touch, but not frosty, and will show depth as it warms slightly in the glass.

At Bottling:

(July 2025): 12% alc/vol · Free SO2 2 mg/L, Total SO2 59 mg/L · All wines are vegan
